Celebrating what we eat at festival

FOOD, glorious food is the subject of a mouth-watering West Norfolk festival which will have tastebuds bursting at the seams.

Borough Mayor David Johnson was due to launch the brochure for the fifth Food Fortnight yesterday at Lynn's Pizza Express.

The festival will take place from Saturday, November 1, to Sunday, November 16 with events in Lynn, Downham, Hunstanton and Stow Bardolph.

Mr Johnson said: "This is a festival which really has something for everyone and provides many opportunities for people to explore new tastes and enhance their knowledge about science, history and food sourced from the local area."

Events will include The Food on Your Plate at Green Quay, Lynn; an Appetite for Archaeology at Downham High School; food fairs in Hunstanton and Sandringham; and the chance to find out more about Bronze Age food at a special presentation in the Seahenge gallery at Lynn Museum.

A number of restaurants and cafs will also be offering special themed menus.

A celebration of food from around the globe, Around the World in Eighty Dishes, will be held at Lynnsport.

Co-ordinator Mrs Gill Daniels said: "Food Fortnight 2008 has a fantastic range of events happening borough-wide. A big thank you has to go to all the businesses, service providers, community and voluntary groups and enthusiastic individuals who support the festival and make it possible."

The event is funded by the West Norfolk Partnership, which includes West Norfolk Council, Norfolk County Council, and Norfolk Police.

Programmes are available from participating organisations, local libraries and tourist information centres.
