A NATIONAL pilot scheme to encourage children from local primary schools to learn new arty techniques through experimental workshops has been hailed a success after the children were presented with their certificates.
Children who participated in the Arts Award 7-11 scheme received their certificates at the Lynn Arts Centre this week.
Trust director Liz Falconbridge, who presented the children with their awards, said: “The award is meant to help children develop skills that might lead them to interesting career paths and to become aware of how art impacts upon their lives.
“We are really proud that these children have worked so hard to achieve some of the first ever Arts Awards 7-11 before the national roll-out later this year.”
Only five pilot projects are being run in East Anglia and children from three Lynn primary schools – Eastgate, Whitefriars and Greyfriars – have come together as a club to be inspired by artists at the workshops.
The scheme was launched after the success of the Arts Award for 11-25-year-olds, which has helped more than 50 young people to gain accreditation since it began two years ago.
Now, two more levels, Arts Award Discover and Arts Award Explore, are being developed for younger age groups to examine connections between the arts and their own lives.
