Dr Gifford at music society

THORNHAM resident, Dr Gerald Gifford, will be the guest when Lynn Music Society meets on Wednesday (February 29).

The programme is entitled “The world of the harpsicord” and will be introduced and played by Dr Gifford who wishes to dedicate the recital to the group’s secretary, Muriel Brindle, who died recently.

Having had an international career as an organ and harpsichord recitalist specialising in 16th to 18th century music, broadcasting frequently in Britain and abroad, Dr Gifford has been Honorary Keeper of Music at Burghley House in Stamford sine 1979.

In 1988, he was appointed Fellow of the RCM and since 2002 he has been Honorary Keeper of The Dolmetsch Library of Early Music. Since 2006, he’s been Honorary Keeper of Music at the Fitzwilliam Museum.

Dr Gifford has produced more than 60 CDs to critical acclaim.

The recital takes place at Lynn Town Hall at 7.30pm. Admission is free to members, under 18s and those with membership affiliated to FRMS. For non-members the cost is £7.50 at the door.
