Fakenham: Air cadets seeing stars
FAKENHAM air cadets from 2534 Squadron have explored the universe with the help of internet-based technology.
With a cloudy sky outside, an evening of indoor star-gazing was enjoyed from the North Norfolk Astronomy Society’s headquarters at Fakenham College.
The cadets were also given advice on the best types of equipment to use when viewing the night sky.
The squadron’s commanding officer, Flt Lieutenant Nick Potter, said: “The cadets have the opportunity to study space travel as part of their training so this has given them a good insight into the subject. This was a very interesting evening.”
A beginner’s guide to the heavens, presented by members of the society, is being held at Fakenham community centre on Thursday, at 7.30pm.
A new computer programme will be demonstrated and, if weather permits, telescopes will be pointed skywards in Millennium Park.
Tickets at £3 are available from Sweets ‘n Things on Oak Street.
The evening has been organised by community group Kick Start Fakenham and all proceeds will be divided between the society and this summer’s third annual Fakenham Fair.
