A pioneering Hunstanton quilting company, which last year became the first in the UK to manufacture quilting machines, is offering a range of courses to brighten up dreary winter weekends.

K&K Machines, formerly known as Kushnz ‘n’ Kwiltz, based in Greevegate, was founded by Angela Pickering eleven years ago with her husband John, who has used his expertise as an engineer to design quilting machines to be distributed across Europe.

The couple are putting on a series of Long-Arm Sundays over the next few weeks to demonstrate their newly-developed machines as well as introducing a range of courses designed to teach quilting.

They said: “In combination with the quilting courses on the Saturdays, they are a must for the keen quilter, and there are lots of people joining the growing passion for quilting.

“In preparation for the weekends, we have just been to India to seek out some samples of high-quality fabrics in silk, cotton and cashmere, all of which are now available from the shop in Hunstanton.”

If you are interested in brushing up on old techniques, or learning some new ones, while making some new quilter friends, why not join Angela, a quilter with 30 years experience, for a Saturday with a difference?

Tomorrow’s course will focus on Heirloom Quilt, with next week’s teaching about Celtic designs reverse applique.

The following Saturday, February 23, will be about San Blas applique and hand sewing, then a return to Heiloom Quilt on March 2.

Courses run from 10am-4pm each Saturday with all materials included in the £35-per day price.
