KING’S LYNN: Fairground fun for town as Mart sets up

With agreements finalised only days ago, the Lynn Mart is set to take over the Tuesday Market Place this week ready for its opening on Thursday.

Officials from the Showman’s Guild of Great Britain and West Norfolk Council have been embroiled in a row over plans to cut the length of the fair and end the customary Valentine’s Day opening.

The row stemmed from the death of three-year-old Rio Bell, from Lowestoft, on Children’s Day at last year’s fair after he ran into King Street where he was hit by a car.

The decision was made on January 28 that the fair will open this Thursday, February 14, and close on Saturday, February 23. The fair will be opened at noon on Thursday.

A single ride will remain on the Tuesday Market Place on the following Monday and Tuesday, February 25 and 26, to maintain what the Guild insists is its right to stage the fair over a two-week period.
