KING’S LYNN: Holistic music workshop strikes right note - SEE PICS

A new holistic music workshop brought smiles to the faces of residents at a Lynn nursing home on one of its first stops to visit residential homes around West Norfolk.
Wendy Mears, local director for the area, is the first to bring the interactive Music for Health workshops to residential homes around Lynn, starting with Briar House.
She said: “The session was absolutely wonderful, it’s amazing how the music reaches some people. I’ve seen the workshops bring laughter to a person after not speaking for weeks.
“I know the importance of the sessions because my mum suffered from dementia in the last 10 years of her life and it was music that helped bring her back.”
The workshops are all different, using instruments and props for a range of exercises to mentally and physically stimulate the residents.

Ms Mears said: “The benefits of Music for Health workshops are numerous, as well as obviously encouraging participants to have fun, they draw on memory strengths, offer gentle exercise, unlock emotions, develop camaraderie, reduce stress as well as re-establishing a love for music.
“Visiting relatives are welcome to join in the hour-long sessions to spend time with their loved ones.”
She added: “I just think it is a great opportunity for care homes to take the free taster and see what it can do for those in the homes, it can do so much.”
