KING’S LYNN: Hospital radio set for a marathon show to raise cash
It would be enough to give BBC Radio 2 breakfast show host Chris Evans palpitations – a show lasting a mammoth 75 hours, but that is the plan by Hospital Radio Lynn presenters next month.
The marathon broadcast aims to raise much-needed money to keep the station at Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital on the air.
The round-the-clock broadcast is aiming to raise £1,100 in sponsorship from businesses and organisations, that are asked to pledge to pay an hour of programming for £20. Sponsors will be mentioned four times during the hour and also receive publicity on the web.
If the money is raised it will complete a £10,000 fundraising effort to cover running costs, upgrade essential equipment and finalise work on the station’s building which had to be left undone when it was built in 2000.
At the time, the station got lumbered with a big VAT bill which an appeal to the Government could not overturn.
