World-renowned photographer Steve Bloom is set to visit Lynn’s Arts Centre next weekend to share a visual feast of images captured on his travels around Africa.
In his talk, Living Africa, Steve will take the audience on a journey through the essence and diversity of Africa, capturing all its colours and cultures through stunning photography.
The event, which has been organised by the Royal Geographical Society in association with King’s Lynn Festival, will explore the extraordinary continent through landscapes from desert to jungle, wildlife from birds to big game, and human life from remote villages to teeming metropolis.
Born in South Africa in the 50s, he first used a camera to document life during apartheid years.
He said: “Over many years I have revisited the continent of my birth, driven by a passion and determination to discover, through photography, its varied cultures and exotic wildlife. Join me in this visually rich presentation as I retrace my steps and visit the people, wildlife and places of Africa.”

Steve will set out the challenges faced by Africa’s people and environment in the 21st century and in the bi-centenary year of explorer David Livingstone’s birth.
He said: “Africa is an extraordinarily diverse continent which has changed immeasurably since the days of Livingstone. Access is much easier today, and swathes of the continent have been influenced by outsiders.
“But in countries that now have teeming metropolises, there remain people who continue to hold onto their traditional cultures.
“Africa’s abundant wildlife, though threatened by poaching and habitat encroachment, still thrives in vast protected reserves where animals are free to roam.”
His evocative images of the living world have been lauded across the globe and he has won many international awards including the Power of Photography Award and the Golden Eye of Russia.
Steve Bloom will be at Lynn’s Arts Centre on March 8 at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £10 and can be bought from www.kingslynnfestival.org.uk
