What started as a joke remark about a Calendar Girls calendar has resulted in £1,600 being raised for Heacham Group Surgery.
The ladies disrobing for what became a sell-out calendar were members of the Pocahontas Players drama group – though they were fully clothed on Tuesday when they handed over the cheque to their chosen charity.
The age range for the photo shoot, which has funded vital equipment for the surgery, was 35 to 92, and each of the models used an appropriate “prop” for their role within the drama group.
Costume designer Janice Curtis said: “It all started one Monday evening during October when an idea was jokingly suggested that we – the older female members of Pocahontas Players – made a Calendar Girls type calendar.
“The next week we met to discuss poses, accessories and what charity we would raise funds for.

“Then, the following Monday the lighting studio was set up and our 12 photographs were taken.
“Although we were all women together, it wasn’t the easiest thing to do but as the evening wore on, we got braver and as you can imagine, had lots and lots of giggles and laughter.
“We also needed 12 sponsors, to sponsor £50 for each month and we had all 12, within three days. Amazing!”
In the space of just three enthusiastic weeks, the photographs were set with each sponsor and the calendar was waiting to go to print.
All of the initial batch of calendars printed were sold, together with a second run of prints. In total, around 500 copies were sold.
The calendars went on sale at £6.50 each, with an initial target to raise £1,000 for Heacham Group Surgery.
The aim was to put the money towards the purchase of a 24-hour Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitor machine, which included a larger adult cuff; these monitors actually cost £1,535.20.
Janice said: “To our surprise and delight we raised a total of £1,600, after printing costs, which meant we were able to buy the blood pressure monitor and also donate £64.80 to Heacham Group Practice Amenity Funds.
“We would like to thank everyone who supported us by buying a calendar and the kind donations that were made, too.”
