King’s Lynn: Take walk through cemetery’s history

A DISCOVERY of the good, the bad and the ugly characters of historical Lynn is being offered through a series of walks at the Hardwick cemetery, which gets underway this weekend.

A few of the town’s more rouge-like characters who came to rest in the cemetery will be the subject of the first of the walks entitled Lynn’s Little Devils, which is being run for the first time

Dr Julian Litten, walk leader, said: “We will be taking people around to have a look at the grave sides of some of the more fascinating individuals who lived in Lynn in the 19th century, those who might not really have wanted their private lives divulged.”

Other offerings are the Eminent Victorians walk where Dr Paul Richards introduces some of the most illustrious inhabitants of the cemetery and the Town Traders walk with Ian and Steph Hall.

The walks are on Sundays beginning at 2pm at the war memorial just inside the cemetery on the side closest to B&Q.

A donation of £4 from each participant towards the Friends of Hardwick Road Cemetery is requested.

Lynn’s Little Devils is on April 22, Eminent Victorians on June 17 and Town Traders on September 9.

Walks will also be on offer on a cemetery open day on Saturday, July 14, which will also include stalls and refreshments.
