Music - Lines and Loops - live - at Congham
It's a violin, Jim, but not as Bach would have known it. Alternatively, the title of violinist Steve Bingham's forthcoming Congham concert is Lines and Loops.
The concert will combine solo violin performances by composers such as Bach and Piazzolla, with arrangements and original compositions for electric violin using up-to-the-minute technology.
This allows him to perform duos by Telemann and Bartok, multi-tracked arrangements of pieces by Chick Corea, Philip Glass and Bill Whelan, and pieces by The Beatles and Coldplay – every note played live, with no backing tracks.
The concert takes place at 3pm on Saturday, January 19, at St Andrew's Church, Congham, and the programme will include: Telemann's allegro from Canonic Sonata no.1, Bartok's Dance from Maramaros, Bill Whelan's Marta's Dance from Riverdance, Philip Glass's violin concerto slow movement (arranged by Steve), movements from Bach's Partita in D minor, Duplicity by Steve, Chick Corea's Children's Song no.6, George Harrison's While My Guitar Gently Weeps and Pachelbel Canon.
Tickets are 10 for adults and 5 for children from: Elsegood's Shop, Pott Row, or direct from McCready Music, Tumbledown Dick, 16 Chapel Road, Pott Row, PE32 1BS, telephone 07786 070040 or 07775 635918.
Steve studied violin with Emmanuel Hurwitz, Sidney Griller and the Amadeus Quartet at the Royal Academy of Music from 1981 to 1985. In 1985 he formed the Bingham String Quartet, an ensemble which has become one of the foremost in the UK.
The quartet has recorded numerous CDs and has worked for radio and television.
In recent years Steve has developed his interest in improvisation, electronics and World music.
His debut solo CD "Duplicity" was released in November 2005.
Promoters, Pott Row-based McCready Music is to offer workshops, masterclasses and recitals to local schools to enhance musical education in West Norfolk.
It aims to put on at least one concert every month. On Friday, February 15, a string quartet concert will be given by the Bliss Quartet, and in March the group Perro Loco will play a Latin and dance programme on cello, clarinet and flute.
