Oliver comes to town!
A NORTH Wootton youngster's bid for stardom in hit musical Oliver has finally paid off as he will take centre stage in King's Lynn Operatic and Dramatic Society's production.
Sam Miller (14) reached the final 50 for the title role in the 2009 West End revival when the competition to find an Oliver was followed by the British public through the BBC One hit reality show I'd Do Anything.
Sam, a Year Ten pupil at King Edward VII High School, Gaywood, and who is a member of Lynn Young Players and the Norfolk Youth Music Theatre, was one of 3,000 boys nationwide bidding for the West End role to make him a star.
As part of the audition process, he was given the opportunity to sing the hit from the show Where is Love in front of well-known musical theatre composer Sir Andrew Lloyd-Webber and producer Cameron Mackintosh.
Sam said: "It was a great experience and I got quite a buzz singing in front of those two!".
The show eventually cast Lawrence Jeffcoate, Harry Stott and Gwion Jones as Oliver and also Jodie Prenger as Nancy.
KLODS' own Nancy - Sarah Krill - also had a brush with the West End when she met Miss Prenger after a preview performance in December.
KLODS' production of Oliver is being staged at the town's Corn Exchange from Wednesday (April 8) to Saturday (April 11).
Tickets are available from 01553 764864.
