Pantomime fun with the DADS
DOWNHAM Amateur Dramatic Society is gearing up for pantomime again next week when it brings John Morley's enduring story of Sleeping Beauty to the Town Hall stage.
The society stages a pantomime annually and this year's offering opens on Thursday (January 29) at 7.30pm.
It will also be staged on Friday (January 30) and Saturday (January 31) at 7.30pm, with an additional matinee performance on Saturday at 2.30pm.
King Fred (Peter Duhig) and Queen Formica (Elaine Johnson) forget to invite Carabosse, The Wicked Witch (Kerry Eburah) to the christening of Princess Beauty, later played by Evie Page.
Much to the consternation of Bimbo, The Palace Jester (Steve Harper), Carabosse threatens evil things but The Queen of the Fairies (Sharon Wiseman) promises to protect the child.
The years roll by and, before we know it, the Princess Beauty is fully grown and looking for suitors at her 21st birthday party.
Prince Richard (Raphael Parker) of Ruritania is a poor Prince, down on his luck, but fortuitously bumps into the Princess in the gardens and it is love at first sight!
Meanwhile, the King and Queen, jolly as they are, have sent out all the invitations for the party - but each thought the other had invited the Wicked Witch!! Spells and curses abound as the slighted Carabosse arrives to spoil it ......
Colour, music and fun as well as plenty of opportunity to sing, boo, laugh, jeer and cheer are in store for the audience at the panto, as the familiar but well-loved story unfolds.
There is also a large supporting cast, including several youngsters from the new DADS Youth Drama Group. Supporting cast members include:
Toffee Nose, The Court Chamberlain (Andy Mussel); Lady Pamela Tooth (Judy Harper); The Prince of Iceland (Phoebe Bradbury); Dum, Dum (The Witch's Son) and The Prince of Ceylon (Adam Speed); The Prince of Mexico (Philip Wiseman); First Lady Courtier (Kayla Gilbert); Dick, A Dirty Rat (Kayleigh Hellard); Dom, Another Dirty Rat (Millie Tombleson); The Fairy of Happiness (Jessica Cooling); The Prince of China and The Fairy of Beauty (Elle North); The Fairy of Love (Rebecca Jackson); The King of the Spiders (Sammy Savage); The Vitriolic Vulture (Emma Whitlock); Strange Animal (Valerie Bond); Palace Courtiers and Dancing Bats, cast members.
It's not too late to get your tickets for what promises to be an enjoyable evening's entertainment in the time-honoured pantomime tradition.
