SHOULDHAM: Writing workshop was a novel idea

Children’s author Jasper Cooper paid a visit to pupils at a Lynn primary school last Friday to talk to them about how to write and illustrate their own novels.

Heading to Lynn’s Waterstone’s store for a book signing on Saturday, Mr Cooper was keen to stop at Shouldham Primary School spend the afternoon with his readers.

Headteacher, Marika Mears, said: “Jasper held a writing workshop with around 70 of our students, and to be able to hold the attention of so many pupils for so long is no mean feat.

“The children were totally captivated and entranced throughout the whole afternoon and many of them went along to Waterstone’s on Saturday to buy books and get their copies signed.”

Mr Cooper explained to the children his whole process of writing a story, from the initial idea to writing it, and finally to illustrating it.

He showed the children some of his original illustrations so they could try drawing their own.

Mrs Mears added: “He was really inspiring for the children and made them want to go away and write and illustrate their own stories. Some of them already knew his work, but for those who didn’t, it was nice to introduce them to his books.”
