A display based on the two-year Swaffham Within Living Memory project takes centre stage at the town’s museum, which opened for the 2013 season on Valentine’s Day.

Since the Heritage Lottery Fund gave a £50,000 grant for the museum’s oral history project in January 2011, more than 100 interviews on people’s memories of Swaffham between 1930 and 2010 have been recorded.

Project officer Mark Taylor said the display in the Butters Room features professional graphics panels and items from stores and schools in the town reflecting the main subjects that came up during the interviews, as well as access to the recordings.

“We have a CD-Rom database where people can come in by appointment and listen to the archive we have compiled,” he said.

Another new display is called Mirror, Mirror On The Wall, which includes a collection of jewellery and accessories worn by ladies, from Victorian times to the modern day, when going out.

There is about one month left to see the re-creation of the wireless room on the RMS Titanic passenger liner, which sank after hitting an iceberg in the North Atlantic in April 1912 on her maiden voyage, before it moves on to another Norfolk museum.

Another attraction this year is based around carpet cleaning through the ages, from a basic willow beater to modern vacuum cleaners.
