SWAFFHAM: Sparklers dazzle on their first birthday

It was a glittering evening for Swaffham Sparklers , the local chapter of the Red Hat Society, when its members celebrated their first birthday in style on Valentine’s Day.

Swaffham Town Mayor Terry Jennison officially opened the indoor garden party, held in the Churchill Rooms at the town’s Conservative Club, and the ladies were entertained on saxophone by Swaffham’s own X Factor star, 88-year-old Cyril Grant .

Sparklers’ Queen Bez Brown, right, and Vice Queen Jenny Anderson presided over the occasion and the 45 women present included some guests from the Downham and Wisbech chapters. Spokesman Eileen Goddard said: “We did all the food ourselves and we had a red birthday cake with one big candle on it. We had a brilliant night.” MLNF13PT02289
