A PRIVATE collection of more than 100 paintings by ornithological artist JC Harrison was sold for £500,000 at London auctioneers Bonhams last week.

Among these paintings was a watercolour entitled Curlew at Holkham Gap which fetched nearly £5,000 at the sale.

The artist worked and lived in Norfolk during his life and many of his paintings depict the rural landscape.

Peter Rees, Bonhams’ 19th century paintings department, said: “We are absolutely delighted with today’s results.

“It was an exceptional collection by a very talented sporting painter and the results prove that the market remains strong for the right works.”
