Hard work starts now for Linnets

LINNETS boss Keith Webb has admitted that the hard work starts now for his promoted team as they prepare for life in the second tier of the Conference.
The Walks outfit confirmed their automatic promotion to the next level with Saturday's 2-0 success at Merthyr Tydfil (see inside pages of today's Lynn News).

But after pipping Team Bath, who could only draw at Chippenham, to the title by the small margin of two points, Webb said: "The hard work really starts now.

"It's not a case of us sitting back, we want to make an impact at the higher level and I don't think that there is much tweaking that needs to be done.

"I've got some cold, hard decisions to make for the good of the club to take the club forward. I want this to sink in first and savour the occasion, but it's only natural that there will be a few changes in the summer."

Lynn are unlikely to find out if they will ply their trade in the Blue Square Conference North or South until the middle of May.

Conference officials will meet on May 6 and again on May 12 and their decision will then be ratified by an FA leagues committee two days later.

But with four northern-based clubs being relegated from the Blue Square Premier and Cambridge City set to be demoted to either the BGB League or Ryman Premier because of their ground problems, it's likely that Lynn will be placed in the South section.

West Norfolk MP Henry Bellingham led the congratulations for the Linnets, saying: "It's fantastic news that KLFC have been promoted, it's a huge uplift for the club."

Linnets press officer Mark Hearle said: "This is a fantastic achievement for everyone connected with the club.

"I'm pleased for the fans, board, Keith Webb, Lee Glover and the players, especially Mark Camm, who has had several near-misses before this season.

"We've never been able to brand the football at The Walks 'Conference', but we can now.

"The town deserves a higher level of football and the club have finally delivered."

All Linnets fans will have the chance to salute their heroes at The Walks on Saturday.

For the club have revealed the BGB Championship shield will be paraded by the team during half-time of the Reserves' home game against Newmarket Town.

The Linnets' management team and the players will take to the pitch to parade the shield to all of the club's loyal supporters.

Hearle said: "We would like to see as many supporters as possible, both those who went to Merthyr and those who didn't, at the ground on Saturday.

"We are giving them the chance to show their appreciation to the team on home soil and hope that there will be a carnival atmosphere.

"The club felt it was only right that fans were given the chance to show their appreciation to both the team and management and we urge everyone to come down and enjoy the occasion."

On the fans, Hearle said: "The town is buzzing at the moment and the fans never cease to amaze me with all of their support.

"They have stuck with us and their support has been tremendous.
