THE Linnets resume their love affair with the FA Cup tomorrow when they host Worksop Town at The Walks in the second qualifying round.
And they will be hoping they continue their fine record in the competition as they bid to emulate their feats of two seasons ago where they went on to entertain Oldham in the second round proper among a blaze of publicity.

The winners of the tie will receive £4,500.

Linnets boss Keith Webb said: "Lynn's achievements in the competition two seasons ago is what attracted me to the club.

"It really highlighted the potential of the club and the fan base out there in the town.

"I know what the traditions of the club are and how important a good run in the cup is to the fans.

"It gives us a welcome break from the league and the players know their responsibilities.

"They owe the fans, themselves and both Lee Glover and myself a performance after last Saturday."

Webb is refusing to take Worksop lightly and the Tigers also have a proud record in the competition.

Over the past few seasons they have accounted for the scalps of Chester, Burton and Accrington Stanley among others.

"They are a very rugged side and will be very difficult to beat, make no mistake about it," said Webb.

"People will automatically think because they are in the UniBond that we will win, but we will have to earn our place in the next round.

"This is a one-off cup game and there always a number of upsets. We certainly don't want to be one of them."

Webb watched Worksop suffer a slender 1-0 defeat at home to UniBond league leaders Ilkeston Town on Wednesday night.

"They've got a couple of decent lads up front and they were useful at set-pieces, which we've got to be wary of."

The clubs have met a number of times over the years, with the last FA Cup meeting being in the 2003-04 season when Lynn drew 2-2 away to the Tigers but lost the replay at The Walks 4-1.

A former Worksop player will be familiar to older fans – Dick Everitt, scorer of more than 100 goals for Lynn in the post-war period – who will be introduced to both teams before the game.

Lynn will be without Mark Camm for up to a month with a hamstring injury, while Ben Chapman is at least a fortnight away from making a return.

But striker Jack Defty should be fit and was due to train last night after undergoing treatment on Tuesday night.

Camm's absence leaves a hole in the Lynn midfield, with Andrew Fisk favourite to take his place.

But Webb said: "I've got a number of options open to me in that position on Saturday.

"It's up to whoever I put there to take their chance in the side."

Webb revealed that he had a heart-to-heart with his players at training on Tuesday night following their 4-0 capitulation at Harrogate.

"It wasn't a shouting match or anything like that, it just gave me the opportunity to sit down with the players and take stock of where we are at," commented Webb.

"We had a long talk and told them what was expected and where we want to go.
