Linnets: 'Biggest game of my life'

LINNETS boss Keith Webb has described the title-deciding game at Merthyr Tydfil tomorrow (Saturday) as the biggest match of his footballing life.
Three points in Wales would finally see the Linnets fulfil their long-term ambition of reaching the Conference set-up.

But anything less than a win would see the Linnets relying on Chippenham doing them a massive favour against Team Bath at Hardenhuish Park.

Webb, whose side just have to match or better whatever Team Bath achieve due to their vastly-superior goal difference, said: "For me personally this is the biggest game of my footballing life.

"And for the club I see this as a bigger match than the Oldham game in the FA Cup, it's huge. There's such an expectancy from all of the fans.

"The players know what they've got to do and we want to win the league for all of the people and fans who have been involved with the club for a long time."

Linnets press officer Mark Hearle said: "Without a doubt, Saturday is the biggest day for the club for years.

"This is more important than our big cup games of recent years.

"Reaching the Conference is what we've been talking about for a number of years and we're that close you can almost touch it."

Team Bath head coach Andy Tillson believes the pressure is on Lynn as the two sides prepare for D-day in the title race.

Tillson said: "We know what we've got to do – go to Chippenham with all guns blazing and see where that takes us.

"We've both got tough games, but Lynn might have a bit more pressure on them as the top spot is theirs to hold on to.

"If we were to finish second now, we'd rather it was on goal difference. There would be nothing worse than for us to lose on Saturday only to find out Lynn have done as well.

"There is all to play for and all we can do is concentrate on our own game before worrying about how they have got on."

Webb believes that anything less than three points won't be enough to secure Lynn the title.

"I don't think a draw will be enough, it's as simple as that," said Webb.

"Chippenham will be looking towards the play-offs and will be looking after themselves. I'd be doing exactly the same if I was in their position."

More than 350 Lynn fans are expected to make the four-and-a-half-hour trip to Pennydarren Park and Webb said: "They will be our twelfth man.

"Their support will really give the players a tremendous lift.

"Last Saturday the lads were a bit down after the Gloucester result, but the fans gave them a big lift in the clubhouse and that's probably what they needed."

Although Lynn's Welsh hosts have nothing to play for, Webb said: "I'm expecting a tougher game than what we had at Gloucester and between us and Team Bath I think we've got the more difficult game.

"Merthyr won't be doing us any favours and we will approach the game as if we are playing Halesowen or Team Bath.

"We beat them heavily at The Walks and they will have a point to prove.
