NEW Linnets loan signing Scott Mitchell is expected to make his Blue Square North bow at Stafford Rangers tonight (Tuesday).
The Walks outfit have brought in the defender/midfielder on a five-month loan deal from Rushden and Diamonds in a bid to srengthen up their midfield.
Linnets boss Keith Webb completed his second signing in the space of four days after yet another
draw at Stalybridge on Saturday (see page 47 of today's paper for report).
On Mitchell, Webb said: "I've spoken to a lot of different people about Scott and they have told me that he is a top-notch player."
"He gives me options and will improve the quality of our team."
Ely-born Mitchell, who celebrates his 23rd birthday today, was signed by Rushden in June on a one-year contract.
He began his career at Ipswich Town as a teenage trainee, and made his debut in 2004.
He then moved north in 2006 to play for Livingston, where he made more than 40 appearances in Scottish Division One.
At the start of 2008 he joined Peterborough United on a short- term contract, during which period he made five league appearances at London Road.
Webb was disappointed with Saturday's point, especially after the hosts were reduced to ten men towards the end of the first half.
The Linnets chief said: "I was disappointed with the quality of our performance and I told the players that after the game.
"We made it very hard work for ourselves by not putting our foot on the ball and passing it.
"I expected us to settle down after they had a player sent-off but we didn't. Against ten men you must keep the ball, make them work and bring them out of their shape.
"If you don't do that and they end up with the ball it doesn't matter if the opposition have nine or 11 on the pitch. It was end-to-end stuff. They had chances, we had chances."
On the Stafford clash, Webb said: "We've got to make sure we work hard and shouldn't be afraid to go there.
"We're not far away, there's just one or two things which need putting right."
Big summer signing Julian Joachim could find himself on the bench again after being left out for tactical reasons on Saturday.
"Jack holds the ball up well and I brought Danny on because he is the best goal poacher we've got at the club," said Webb.
Webb fears his side could face a Stafford backlash after an embarassing home defeat by Southport on Saturday.
That defeat prompted angry Stafford boss Steve Bull to say: "There were six or seven players out there who are not good enough for this league.
"We didn't turn up for the game and played only for pride in the second half. But I've got big enough shoulders to take it and both me and Chris (Brindley) will have a go at sorting it out."
