LINNETS boss Carl Heggs has revealed his secret weapon for next season – a new scout.
Heggs has called upon the services of Lee Sullivan as Lynn look to get a headstart on their UniBond rivals.

Sullivan, who has also worked with both Notts County and Nuneaton Borough, worked under Heggs at Redditch, and the Linnets boss had no hesitation in bringing him to The Walks.

Heggs said: "Lee played a massive part in Redditch staying up last season and finishing 13th in the Conference North on a budget of £1,000.

"He will go and watch every team before we play them and come back with a detailed report on our opposition.

"Lee will report back about the strengths and weaknesses of our opposition, their dangermen and shape, and we will work on whatever he tells us.

"We will prepare thoroughly like that for every match and if we end up losing the game it will be because we have been beaten by the better team, not because we haven't prepared properly.

"We've all got to contribute to make this club successful, from the chairman, to the players right down to the fans.

"We are all in this together as a club and if one person is pulling in the wrong direction you are only as strong as your weakest link."

The Linnets boss, who made more than 200 appearances during a ten-year Football League career, will also register himself as an emergency player for next season.

Heggs, along with assistant boss Andy Johnson, proved their playing credentials during Sky TV's indoor Midlands masters on Sunday.

The pair played in all three games for West Bromwich Albion and Heggs notched a last-minute winner against Wolves in the Black Country derby.

"If we are chasing a game in the last 20 minutes, then I'll bring myself on to bash a few people up,"said Heggs.

"I played 25 games for Redditch in the Conference North last season so I'd be foolish not to register myself as a player.

"I don't want to play, but if I have to, then I will."

Heggs yesterday lost out on the Telford-based left-back he was chasing.

"He would have been a good asset, a consistent seven out of ten player for us, but he was faced with a six-hour round-trip to play for us in a home game," said Heggs.

"I've still got two other irons in the fire in that position."

Once he has signed a left-back and completed the formalities of two loan deals with a Championship club, Heggs will run the rule over ten trialists in pre-season training.

"Once I've got a left-back and the two loan players in I will have a squad of about 13 or 14, including myself," said Heggs.

"I will then be looking to perhaps sign a couple of trialists to give us 14 or 15 players.

"We haven't got the money to go out and get a squad of 18 or 19 players.
