Webb: Shape up or ship out

STRAIGHT-talking Linnets boss Keith Webb has warned his under-achieving players to shape up or ship out.
Webb is finally running out of patience with some of his squad and pulled no punches ahead of tomorrow's home clash against Solihull Moors in the Blue Square North.
Lynn have lost lost three home games in the space of a week, conceding 11 goals in the process, and Webb knows his side need to regain their early-season form quickly.
Webb said: "The players need to perform to the standards I expect and if they don't, I will bring in players who will.
"We've got a bit of a soft underbelly at present and I'm not just talking about our defence.
"We need to toughen up and I want us to aspire to reach the standards that Kidderminster set here last week.
"If certain players don't improve and perform how I expect them to, then they will see how ruthless I can be."
Webb added: "None of the squad I've got can say that they haven't had a fair chance out on the pitch.
"I just want us to win football matches and I don't care if we do it playing ugly or like Arsenal."
signing
Webb this week moved to bolster Lynn's leaky defence with the signing of central defender Bradley Thomas from Crawley Town.
"He's a big lad, has good pace and is an out-and-out stopper," said Webb, who has had the backing of the Lynn board to bring in fresh faces.
"His signing gives me one or two options at the back, and I thank the board for supporting me."
Thomas arrives at The Walks initially until the end of December, but Webb said: "We're hoping to keep him here for the remainder of the season but because of football regulations we can only do things one stage at a time."
Starting as a trainee with Peterborough United, Thomas played for a number of clubs – many of them on loan.
While at Posh he was loaned to Kettering, Aldershot, Heybridge and Weymouth.
Joining Eastleigh in the summer of 2005 he moved on to Yeovil in January 2006 and had loan spells at Tamworth and Boston United – scoring twice in 11 appearances for The Pilgrims.
He joined Crawley in the summer of 2007 and has made 27 appearances – nine of which have come this season – after his early Reds career was delayed by a broken leg in a pre-season friendly against Tottenham.
His signing comes exactly at the right time after it was confirmed yesterday that fellow defender Mark Peters has broken the head of his right fibula.
Peters faces at least six weeks sideli-ned with his leg injury, but Lynn's other injury troubles are beginning to ease.
Jack Defty and Scott Mitchell both trained on Tuesday night, while Mark Camm and Simon Weaver were expected to return last night.
All four are in contention for a start against a visiting side who have only lost once in their last four games.
After tomorrow's game there will be an evacuation exercise in the main stand at The Walks.
