LINNETS boss Keith Webb says releasing Dean West was one of the hardest decisions he has ever had to make.
Veteran defender West, who made 143 appearances and scored three goals for the club, was told he was no longer part of Webb's plans on Monday evening.
Webb said: "I had to make a cut somewhere because of our recent transfer activity.
"It was such a hard decision to make as Dean has been brilliant for the club. He took the news like a true professional and I can't speak highly enough of him."
Webb will use tomorrow's home friendly against Cambridge United at The Walks to run the rule over former Premier League midfielder Kevin Horlock, along with a number of other triallists.
Ex-Northern Ireland international Horlock (35) twice helped Manchester City into the Premier League from League One and also played for West Ham and Ipswich among other clubs.
"I'll be having a look at Kevin, but it doesn't necessarily mean that we will sign him," said Webb.
"I'm looking for one more player to complete the squad, but I'm in no hurry to bring them in."
Lynn were due to open their pre-season programme at S and L Corby last night, where Webb was planning on using a number of new faces, including ex-Norwich City player Jordan Jong, during a game over three 30-minute sessions.
