FRAZZLED Gaywood residents were outraged to see new road markings appear in Reffley Lane just days before re-surfacing work is due to begin.
Norfolk County Council first came under criticism for scheduling the £60,000 re-surfacing project during the on-going closure of the southernmost tip of Wootton Road, which has caused serious traffic problems in the area.

Now they are under fire a
gain for painting fresh road markings on the stretch despite extensive use of flyers and signs to warn residents of the impending work, due to begin on Wednesday.

Mr David Jones, who lives on the corner of Wootton Road, said: "White lines were being painted right under the board saying the road's going to be re-surfaced.

"The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing!

"I think it's disgusting to keep putting up council charges and then going and doing a silly thing like that.

"It just makes my blood boil to see and know of such stupidity."

The Lynn News was also contacted by Mr Ian Connor, of Temple Road, who was equally outraged by the farce.

He said: "I just couldn't believe it when I saw what they were doing.

"Talk about a total waste of money."

A spokesman for Norfolk County Council said: "This was an error from the contractor working on our behalf and that contractor will be meeting the cost when the lines need to be put down after the re-surfacing work is carried out.

"There will be no cost to the tax payer."

Reffley Lane is set to be re-surfaced in stages from the A148 Wootton Road to Reffley Farmhouse and the work is expected to take three days.

The county council has warned it will be necessary to close sections of the road to all through traffic during this time.
