A DOWNHAM-inspired holiday resort has been lovingly created by expert bakers charged with designing the traditional cake for the town's annual festival.
Work on the impressive cake started in January when Susan Gooding, director of Downham's Knicat Ltd bakery, was given the brief of creating a design based on the festival theme Hi-de-Hi.

The end product saw Downham's iconic clock incorporated into a holiday resort and the cake has now gone on display ahead of a coffee morning at the town hall from 10am next Tuesday, when it will finally get eaten.

Ms Gooding said: "The scene is a holiday resort but they wanted to incorporate something from the town so I decided to add the clock as a helter-skelter.

"Quite a few hours went into it making it and I am delighted with the outcome."

The festival opens on Sunday and runs until Sunday, June 1.

The event features the traditional carnival parade and the usual mix of exhibitions, shows, meetings and musical concerts.
