A CHARITY trustee appeared in court this week accused of stealing more than £50,000 from a support group at Lynn's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Martin Whatling (54), of 32 Main Street, Gedney Dyke, in Lincolnshire, appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday and denied 16 counts of theft and four counts of false accounting.

The charges cover a five-year period between 2002 and 2007 and relate to thefts from the League of Friends for Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Mr Whatling is accused of stealing £57,315 in a series of thefts ranging from £450 to £8,125.

During Tuesday’s brief hearing he spoke only to confirm his name and address before entering not guilty pleas to all charges.

Mr Whatling’s case was adjourned until Tuesday, October 28, for the preparation of committal papers to the crown court and he was released on unconditional bail.

The League of Friends works to raise funds for equipment and services.

Mr Whatling is listed as a trustee for the League of Friends with the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
