THE kids are alright at Middleton Youth Club after taking delivery of guitars and a drum kit paid for by a Lottery grant.
The excited youngsters are now looking forward to taking it in turns to take the instruments home for two weeks at a time to practise playing.
Club members and leaders are overjoyed after gaining a £9,000 Awards for All grant. About £3,000 has been spent on musical instruments and the rest of the money will be used to fund equipment for IT, film making, art and dance projects.
Club secretary Ema Holman said the club's 50 members, aged nine to 15, had been carefully consulted about what activities they would enjoy before the grant was applied for.
She explained that a previous club folded and the new club was formed by community volunteers about two years ago.
"When we started, we had absolutely nothing and we have been slowly building up our equipment," she said.
After getting a grant from Norfolk Youth Fund for sports gear and a donation from ExxonMobil for karaoke equipment, they decided to apply for help from the Lottery.
From questionnaires and group discussions, it emerged that the youngsters really enjoyed people coming into club meetings and showing them how to do things.
"We are a strong team and we gave the children a say and a chance to make their own decisions. I think that's why we did well.
"We are over the moon because the grant is a lot of money for a group like ours," said Mrs Holman.
She also thanked Norfolk Music Works, of Roydon, and East Coast Music, of Lynn, for their support.
