MPS representing constituents in West Norfolk gathered at the House of Commons yesterday to receive all your Lynn News Save Our Post Offices campaign signatures.
Reporter Richard Long met North West Norfolk MP Henry Bellingham and South West Norfolk MP Christopher Fraser to present 610
Lynn News Counter Attack coupons, a petition featuring more than 1,700 signatures, local press cuttings and readers' letters.
The documents have now been passed to Post Watch, the watchdog for postal services, for submission ahead of the consultation deadline on June 2.
The
Lynn News launched the campaign in March after hearing the body-blow news that 19 sub-post offices in our region faced closure.
Branches from busy towns such as Fakenham and Downham to quiet villages such as Nordelph and Welney were included on the list of closures, sparking a mass outcry from readers who feared the plans could mark the death-knell for our rural communities.
Petitions, public meetings, detailed letters of objection and focused campaigns have been organised in response to the announcement and we now face an anxious wait to see if Post Office bosses will reverse their decision and save some of the branches in our area.
Even though our campaign has now closed we are still actively encouraging readers to write directly to the Post Office about the specific issues they face with detailed information and statistics to support their case.
Letters should be sent to Laura Tarling, Network Development Manager, c/o National Consultation Team, FREEPOST Consultation Team; email consultation@postoffice.co.uk or call 08457 223344.
