SMOKERS wanting to stub out their addiction can get the help and advice they need at a special event in Lynn tomorrow.
Representatives from NHS Norfolk's Stop Smoking Service will be at the Vancouver Quarter between 9am and 5.30pm to provide information on the range of free NHS services available and conduct carbon monoxide tests to assess people's current level of a
ddiction.

Service manager Jacqueline Bryony said: "Over the years I have worked with many people who thought they didn't have the strength to quit.

They often think the NHS support services are not right for them and think that the groups are going to be intimidating.

"However, once they start using the help and support that the local NHS Stop Smoking Services provide, people get over their pre-conceptions and successfully beat the habit.

It is great to know that our team can help make such a positive difference to people's lives."

This year the service helped more people give up smoking than ever before as the team smashed its annual 'quit' target.

Between 2007-2008 almost 9,000 people registered with the service and almost 5,000 quit as a result of the support and help they were given.

Some people use the Stop Smoking Service as a last resort, but NHS Norfolk is encouraging people to use it as a first step.

Research shows that when people deal with the physical addiction of smoking by using nicotine replacement therapies (NRT) or other stop smoking medicines, and they also take advantage of NHS stop smoking services to support them as they quit, they are up to four times more likely to stop smoking.
