MILITARY honours will be paid at the funeral service for the West Norfolk Royal Marine who was killed by enemy fire in Afghanistan on Christmas Eve.
Lance Corporal Ben Whatley (20), of Lima Company, 42 Commando Royal Marines, died in a fierce battle while leading his men from the front during an operation to clear enemy forces near Lashkar Gar, in central Helmand province.

His parents live in the parish of Godwick, near Tittleshall, and the funeral service will be held at St Mary’s Church in East Raynham on Friday, January 16, at noon. A private cremation will follow.

The family are asking for no flowers – but donations may be given for Help for Heroes, the charitable organisation which helps servicemen and women who have been wounded.

Donations may be given at the service or sent care of Fakenham and District Funeral Services, Weasenham Manor, Fakenham Road, Weasenham St Peter PE32 2TF.
