RINGSTEAD has become the first West Norfolk village to receive a new community information point in place of its post office.
The free internet facility, giving residents access to borough council and post office services on-line, has been installed at Ringstead General Store to breathe new life into the area.

Villagers will now be able to pay bills, get advice and make inquiries at the shop, which is still going strong, without travelling or queuing.

The scheme is part of West Norfolk Council's five-point action plan, drawn up in response to the controversial post office closures, and will see shop owners trained to use the internet and teach others to access the services on offer.

Store owner Mrs Cathy Roberts said it was early days, but the centre had already been used by local people and holidaymakers.

She added: "The council approached us and has been very supportive.

"It doesn't want to see a shop lost just because the post office is no longer there.

"We thought it was a perfect opportunity to bring something new to the shop."

The centre was officially launched by North West Norfolk MP Henry Bellingham last week and will open from 8am to 5.30pm on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday and from 8am to 1pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. It will also be open on bank holidays, except Christmas day and New Year's day.
