BEACHAMWELL'S annual fun day on Sunday will include the official opening of the new play area in the village funded by the Big Lottery.
At noon, 95-year-old Ruth Rix, who has lived in the village for more than 60 years and is its oldest resident, will be launching the play area, which has a three-tower climbing zone, swings, slide and trim trail.

Villagers were given the chance t
o get involved in the almost-£25,000 development on land behind the village hall and have had a say in the equipment provided, as previously reported in the Lynn News.

Swaffham Town Mayor Shirley Matthews will open the fun day on the village green after the play area opening. During the afternoon, there will be five-a-side football and tug-o’-war competitions, a 30-bird sporting clay pigeon shoot and a dog show with lots of fun classes.

Other activities will include china smashing, a coconut shy, a chicken lottery, a raffle and stalls with bric-a-brac, cakes, clothes, plants, produce, tombola and toys. There will also be games and face painting for children.

Admission to the fun day is free, there will be a bar and barbecue, and all the money raised from the activities will go to Beachamwell Memorial Hall’s maintenance fund.
