Terrington group near their pavilion goal

TERRINGTON St Clement could be home to a new £250,000 sports pavilion by November thanks to the hard work of fundraising volunteers.
The Parish Pavilion Action Committee Terrington (PPACT), formed last year, has so far raised around £245,000 for the project and is confident of finding the remaining cash in the coming weeks.
Chairman Andrew Hornigold, of Chapel Road, said: "There are a lot of ideas in the pipeline. We have approached the Co-operative Fund and written to various local businesses and we also expect to receive contributions from the Terrington Tigers and the senior football team in the village."
Donations were also made to the fund in lieu of flowers at the funeral of Mr Hornigold's father Bob, held at the village church last Tuesday.
Last week saw the committee resubmit a revised planning application with West Norfolk Council which, if successful, would see the facility built on the Memorial Field in Churchgate Way.
An earlier application was officially withdrawn in January after architects working on the project were warned of a number of objections raised during the consultation period.
But Mr Hornigold said a number of bodies, including the internal drainage board and Norfolk Constabulary, had been consulted along with neighbours near the site to iron out any issues.
"Fingers crossed the application will go through and then we can start getting estimates and get cracking with the project. We hope to have it all completed by November."
The committee is also celebrating the news that its junior member Peter Catlin (15) has secured a £25,000 grant from the Norfolk Youth Fund.
Mr Hornigold added: "Peter filled in the application form, went to an interview and did a presentation, so it's a marvellous achievement."
Chairman of the parish council Mrs Sheila Young said: "I am just so chuffed the committee took this on and have done it so quickly. They are nearly up to their goal when people said it couldn't be done."
The existing pavilion, built in the 1940s, will be demolished to make way for the new facility which, once approved, will eventually provide new changing rooms, showers, storage area, toilets, a kitchen and community rooms which will be available for non-sporting groups.
PPACT has so far secured £150,000 from the Football Foundation, £30,000 from WREN (Waste Recycling Environmental Limitied), £15,000 from the borough council, £15,000 from the parish council and £10,000 from the village's W.H.Kirkham memorial trust fund, set up to support youth activities in the area.
