NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD Richard Booth was the proudest cadet in Lynn's 42F Air Training Corps when the regional commandant visited the squadron last week.
Group Captain Brett Morrell formally promoted him to cadet warrant officer, which is the highest rank a cadet can achieve.

After receiving his certificate and insignia in front of his fellow cadets, Mr Booth said: “I have been with the squadron for seven years, joining when I was 13. I am really proud to think that I have reached the top. What makes it even more special is the fact this is not a squadron promotion, but was decided at Wing level.”

Promotion to this rank is only attained by commitment to the squadron and corps and after an in-depth interview with Wing staff.

As well as the promotion ceremony, Gp Capt Morrell talked to the cadets about the new activity centres which are being planned for the central and east region and opportunities that they will open up.

Lynn Squadron commander, Flight Lieutenant Pauline Petch, said: “The group captain was very interested in our ongoing history project and in everything we have planned for our 70th anniversary year in 2009.”
