Parliament's new watchdog is to announce the details of the scheme it will be administering in the aftermath of the expenses scandal. It seems very strange to this old codger that having agreed a referendum to decide whether or not to stay in the EU - resulting in a Brexit majority vote, a bunch of unelected nobs in the Lords, can be allowed to disrupt the process of triggering Article 50 simply because they do not agree with the decision.

What gives these people the right to go against the majority? It’s bad enough they are paid £300 just to turn up!

Is there still a place for them in this modern society? If they continue to play silly, divisive games – under the guise of democratic scrutiny, the answer must surely be a resounding no!

And it doesn’t make sense that voters have shown what they think of Liberal Democrat policies - with only a handful of MPs remaining in the House of Commons, yet in the Lords Chamber, over 100 unelected Liberal peers think they know best and have the power to disrupt the will of the people.

Do these ermine-coated rebels really believe we should promise open sesame to immigrants while EU muppets continue to refuse any guarantees about our own ex-pats?

For goodness’ sake, stop chucking away our bargaining chips and let Mrs May and her team complete their proposals before we start nit-picking at them!

She has already publicly promised to safeguard overseas nationals subject to similar co-operation from the EU. Come on Mrs Merkel, let’s be hearing from you.

And I do wish remainers would stop accusing those of us “stupid” (etc) people who voted Brexit, of being racist.

We are not anti-immigrants – just uncontrolled immigration.

Most importantly, we want our sovereignty back, make our own laws and have the ability to compete in the fast-growing world markets currently closed to us by EU membership.

Regrettably my generation won’t be around to see the long-term benefits of Brexit. But our descendants will and I am absolutely certain
they will thank us for our decision. We’re doing pretty well in spite of all the scaremongering. So for goodness sake have faith and let’s get on with it!

Enough of the soap box. Have you ever heard of such lunacy as the latest PC offering from the learned suits at Cardiff Metropolitan University who have banned the use of the words ‘mankind’ and ‘man-made’ in their Equal Opportunities Policy, because they could be deemed to be sexist - stating that politically correct alternatives should be used to ”promote an atmosphere in which all students and staff feel valued”. Oh bless.

What utter tosh! And it gets worse. “Wheelchair bound” is apparently patronising and pitying, while “wheelchair user” is empowering; banned words include best man, forefathers, housewife, manpower, headmistress, headmaster, Mrs and Miss.

Heavens above, whatever next from these lefty
luvvies? I can see we’ll all be walking around with a new ‘phone app that tells us exactly what we can and can’t say any more. All I can say is what a load of manure!
