It was a champagne Wednesday in Swaffham this week as a popular actress played herself to open the East Anglian Children’s Hospices’ (EACH) new shop in the town.

Helen Fraser, who is probably best known for her role as Sylvia ‘Body Bag’ Hollamby in the prison drama Bad Girls, cut the ribbon in her capacity as an ambassador for the charity.

The new shop is in the Market Place, between Willham H Brown and Boots, and is one of 17 shops the charity runs across the region.

Gabrielle Spray, EACH’s head of retail, said: “We’re very much looking forward to becoming part of the Swaffham community.

“We’re confident the people of Swaffham and surrounding areas will get behind our new shop and help us to make it a great success.”

Last year, the charity’s shops generated around £700,000 to support its services for seriously ill children and their families.
