A bitterly cold wind did not deter supporters of a coffee afternoon at St Mary’s Church, Anmer, on Sunday. which was organised to raise funds for their three-day August Bank Holiday Flower Festival.

Well wrapped-up customers tumbled through the door to be greeted by coffee, cakes and biscuits, a raffle, tombola and an arts and craft stall.

“The festival this year is to help raise funds towards a fund to re-new the Lady Chapel roof,” said Parochial church council member, Jean Walker.

The festival, which runs from August 27 to 29, is the third.

The first in 2012, held to coincide with the Queens’ Diamond Jubilee, contributed £500 towards refurbishing the church’s bells which were increased from two to four.

The second, two years ago, raised £300 towards the refurbishment of the altar.
