Swaffham’s Suffield and Hilton Courts’ well-establish ninth summer fete at the weekend attracted a constant stream of visitors.

Stalls offered competitions, bric-a-brac, artwork, jewellery and books, whilst Back 2 Back duo, Sean and Andre Plummer, provided music.

“The residents run the stalls and the people who do it are amazing,” said scheme manager, Pam Gayfer. “People of different ages and abilities all work together to make it a success. It’s always well supported.

“Running the event gives them a sense of achievement and it empowers them.”

Families pitch in as well and help provide all the prizes for a fete which is organised at a series of meetings during the year. Suffield and Hilton Courts straddle the town’s London Road providing a total of 51 flats for residents. “They live independently with support,” said Mrs Gayfer.

But the fete is only part of the fundraising work of residents. In addition they also organise events for charity during the year. “We also raise money for the EACH Hospice, Swaffham and Litcham Hospice and, at Christmas, for Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.”

She was keen to praise and express her support for the Back 2 Back duo, who gave their time for free.

The event is expected to make around £1,000 for the complex’s social fund.
