Bold design for South Lynn school
THIS is the bold design for a planned new £6.5 million South Lynn primary school.
The new building – an artist's impression of which is shown – is intended to replace the existing St Michael's Primary School, in Saddlebow Road, and will be built on what is now the Puny Drain, as part of the South Lynn redevelopment programme the Nar Ouse Regeneration Area (NORA) project.
If a planning application, just submitted by Norfolk County Council, is granted permission, work is expected to begin on the site next autumn, with the school scheduled to open in January 2010.
A council spokesman said a decision on what to do with the old site is yet to be made and will come as a result of consultation with those involved in the NORA project and the church, which owns the building.
The new school, able to accommodate up to 210 students, is designed to be energy efficient, including features such as roof-mounted solar panels to pre-heat water.
It will also have a multi-use games area, school hall, library and kitchen.
This artist's impression shows the external walls embellished with bold swathes of primary colour and a deep ski-slope style roof.
