A former Lynn scout master has today, Wednesday, August 27, admitted sex offences against boys dating back more than 20 years.
Barry Warren, 74, of Clifton Road, Gaywood, pleaded guilty to two counts of gross indecency against boys under the age of 13 during a hearing at Norwich Crown Court.
The offences are said to have taken place in West Norfolk during the early 1990s. The victims were all children who Warren came into contact with through his role with the scouts.
Speaking after his pleas, Det Con Debbie Payne, of Norfolk Police’s child investigation unit, said: “Warren clearly misused his position of trust to take his unassuming victims on trips on the Norfolk Broads and swimming at the weekends.
“He then used these trips as an opportunity to abuse them.”
She added: “We believe there may be other victims who have not been contacted as part of this investigation. Every allegation of abuse is fully investigated by Norfolk Police, with specialist officers guiding victims through the process. Support and advice is available from a range of agencies and police work closely with partners to work towards the successful prosecution of offenders.”
Warren has been released on bail and will return to court to be sentenced on a date yet to be fixed.
