Banking giant Natwest has this afternoon announced plans to close its branch in Swaffham later this year.
Officials say the Market Place premises will shut on December 7, following a sharp fall in the amount of business being done there in recent years.
A spokesman said a short time ago: “The number of transactions taking place at the Swaffham branch has dropped by 16 per cent since 2011.
“We are committed to following the government’s protocol on branch closures, and we have made the decision following careful consideration of a wide range of factors including branch usage and the alternative ways our customers can bank with us locally.”
The bank says it has reached an agreement with the nearby post office to enable customers to deposit funds there.
It will also be retaining its cash machine in the town and plans to provide a mobile banking service.
