A second member of West Norfolk’s Council ruling cabinet has resigned, it has been announced.
The decision of Hunstanton councillor Paul Beal to step down from his coast and tourism portfolio was announced during the authority’s meeting last night.
Mayor Colin Manning told members that Mr Beal, who was not present at the meeting, had resigned for personal reasons.
Fellow ward councillor Richard Bird said he was “sorry” to hear of Mr Beal’s decision.
He added: “I hope this doesn’t detract from him being able to continue as a ward councillor and very much look forward to working with him.”
However, council leader Nick Daubney suggested Mr Beal “won’t take much comfort from those words.”
Mr Beal’s resignation comes just a few weeks after Vivienne Spikings stood down from the development portfolio, also for personal reasons.
No announcement has yet been made about a successor to Mr Beal.
