A food and craft fair marked the start of fundraising
exploits towards a new
community hub.

Villagers in Wereham hope to raise £20,000 so that construction work on the project can begin in July.

There were a wide array of stalls present, selling everything from jewellery and metal craft to plants and home baking.

During the fair, the fundraising committee held a Buy a Brick stall.

The new hall is to be built on a playing field adjacent to the existing building, which dates back to the First World War, and is to be demolished as part of the development programme.

More residents in the village are being encouraged to buy a brick.

Rachel Barron, the project’s fundraising manager, said: “We are now looking to the social and business community to buy a brick to meet our target.”

The project was awarded a £637,000 grant by the Big Lottery Fund last autumn, which will cover around three-quarters of its total cost.
