Sculthorpe celebrated its tenth annual village show in the village hall at the weekend with a bumper entry. “We were not far off a record entry,” said one of the organisers, Jean Bourne. “And we had a number of new people to the village taking part.” “The Sculthorpe community has come together again,” said another of the organisers, Kris Sumner. “The response was good, the standard was high. The flowers were particularly excellent and the photographic section gets better each year.” How much it was a community event was underlined by the brisk business done by a group of volunteers who provided the refreshments.
The show, which is more than a flower show, started after a group of enthusiasts greeted the 21st century by bringing back to life allotments in the village. The enthusiasm for ‘growing your own’ has burgeoned ever since.
