BIRCHAM NEWTON: Campus makeover gets boost from £2million grant

A college re-development plan has been awarded £2 million to build new student accommodation.

The National Construction College is undergoing a £27 million upgrade at its Bircham Newton campus to develop a conference venue, restaurant and store.

The latest grant, provided by the Skills Funding Agency, will provide 45 en-suite rooms.

Contractor Mansell Construction Services will start work later this month and the rooms will be ready in September.

Director Andy Walder said: “We’re delighted to have been granted this funding and are very excited about the opportunities that it offers in terms of improving life on the college campus for students.”

The college will be looking for further funding to construct a student union building and renovate a sports hall.

The site is due to be re-named later in the year CITB College as part of a re-branding.
