THE owner of a popular sandwich bar is hoping to get a bigger slice of the action by opening a new cafe.
Maria Hooker and her team at The Filling Station have been serving jacket potatoes, salads and sandwiches from a takeaway unit in Norfolk Street, Lynn, for 17 years.
But Miss Hooker has now spent nearly £40,000 on transforming the former Great Presents site, which is close to the previous Filling Station unit, into a cafe and takeaway.
Mayor Colin Sampson, who was one of the Filling Station’s first customers, is due to officially open the cafe today. It has been serving customers since Tuesday.
Miss Hooker used her loaf and decided to branch out after missing out on some business as the takeaway did not offer much seating.
The new cafe, which follows a “shabby chic” theme, has seating for 30 people, who will be able to enjoy a light lunch. It will also have a selection of pre-made sandwiches
Miss Hooker said of the new cafe: “Myself and my staff have looked forward to the move. Everyone has put in a lot of hard work.”
