HUNSTANTON: Stroke group gets £500 from supermarket
Sainsbury’s store in Hunstanton has presented a local group helping stroke victims with one of its community grants for £500.
The donation came about after the Coastal Stroke Association was selected as the Westgate store’s charity of the year.
Sainsbury’s community grant scheme, which helps charitable groups in the locality, is funded by sales of its Bags for Life.
Becky Howes, the Hunstanton supermarket’s human resources manager, said: “Our store is at the heart of the local community and it is important that we can do as much as we can to support it.
“When we heard about the Coastal Stroke Association we were really pleased to be able to help out.”
She pointed out: “For customers at Sainsbury’s in Hunstanton, buying a Bag for Life means that they are not only doing great things for the environment, but are also making a contribution to their local community.”
Nationwide last year, Sainsbury’s community grants scheme provided £135,000 worth of donations to charitable causes nominated by store managers and staff.
The supermarket chain also donates food to a network of local community groups and charities and raises money for Comic Relief and Sport Relief.
