INQUEST OPENED INTO DEATH OF RIO BELL
AN inquest has been opened and adjourned this afternoon (Wednesday) into the death of three-year-old Rio Bell, who died following an incident near Lynn Mart.
A post mortem examination showed the youngster, from Lowestoft, died from multiple injuries after being hit by a car in King Street on February 15.
Deputy Norfolk coroner Jacqueline Lake told the Norwich inquest that Rio suffered head injuries in the impact and was taken to Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where he later died.
She adjourned the inquest to a date to be fixed for further information about the incident.
By late this afternoon, 4,270 people had signed a petition calling for all roads surrounding the Mart to be closed while the traditional annual fair is in town.
On Saturday night, about 50 campaigners linked arms to block King Street during a peaceful protest supporting the call for closure of roads in the area, But officials are awaiting the outcome of the police investigation before deciding what lessons can be learned.
